Our Week~ Smoothness Still Remains

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week…

It is hunting season still and so my husband and Tommy head out hunting every chance they get.  They haven’t gotten anything, yet.  They still enjoy their time together out in the wilderness.

Thursdays are crazy busy, we have co-op those days, in which I teach a class.  Emily  has my class, Art of Argument, a sewing class, volunteers at the library and then participates in a teen book club.  Katey has cheer on Thursdays and Tommy has Karate.  So I decided that I needed to pre-make our dinner for that day.  I spent Sunday cooking.  Actually it only took 45 min, to prepare meat for 3 meals and my complete Thursday meal.  It was time well spent, especially after how busy my weeknights happen to be this week.  (One night I got caught up talking with a friend, and one night I had to go up and help my husband on the mountain.)

Katey lost a tooth this week!

It was Emily’s Birthday this week as well and Katey was so excited, she used her tooth fairy money to purchase Emily a gift.  I was so proud of her generosity. She spent time wrapping it and decorating the wrapping paper.

I let Emily have a few neighbor kids over for some cake! Her friend had just put some frosting on her face and she did not want her picture taken.  Here is some of the remaining cake.  I made a Cookies And Crème Cake.   Here she is opening the “sisters” necklace that Katey got her.  It was really one of the sweetest things.

We played lots of games. We just love our Simply Fun games.  (Watch for a review and giveaway coming soon)

Emily painted some “magic rocks” for part of our pretend play.  Which is a simple idea from Show Me A Story.  (Another review and giveaway coming soon).

Emily has been learning about tracking animals in Prairie Primer and we played a family game of guess that track using play-dough.  This was  very fun!

Katey and Tyler have been learning about the food pyramid and eating healthy while “rowing” Jesse Bear, What Will You Wear? ?  They spent some time sorting food from File Folder Fun.

I also made them little place mats using Choose My Plate.  It has been neat how they check out every meal to make sure they have each food group as well as the right amount.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share… Not everyone is the same. Not everyone educates the same.  Not everyone has the same schedules.  No one does everything.  All this is OKAY!!!

My favorite resource this week has been…

4H!  See why I am so grateful for them down below.

What’s working/not working for us… Our schedule IS WORKING for us!  We are loving this.

I’m reading… I finished the book Escape this week.  Written by Carolyn Jessop and her life during and after polygamy.  Our family read-aloud has been The Indian in the Cupboard. The kids have just loved this story.  They often ask me to read extra chapters.

I’m cooking… Check that out here!

I’m grateful for…

4H.  Our local 4H group is amazing!  We went in there for some entomology curriculum and we told them how we were using a homemade display case for our bug collection and that it was full.

P9100394

I asked them where they recommended getting the best price and quality for a display case.  He said he happen to have 2 extra ones in storage that needed small repairs and I could have for free. We were ecstatic.  We came home right away and got out our hot glue gun, fixed them and cleaned them up.

Not all the bugs made the transfer intact. Luckily, our most prized ones did.

Hunting season hasn't started here yet ... maybe not until next month, I don't remember. My husband's planning to take our 8-year-old for the first time, and I'm sure he'll take our 11-year-old again too. It's great dad-son alone time. :-)
